Festival: The secrets of astronomy and Moroccan culture

This choice will allow the public to understand astrological phenomena and detect relationships between them and their daily lives. Also, the Ifrane Astronomy Festival, scheduled from 4 to 7 September at Al Akhawayn University, will certainly be an opportunity for visitors to find links between popular heritage and the said science. In addition to festival-goers, this annual popular and scientific event brings together, around the sky and the stars, the curious and astronomy enthusiasts, as well as professional and amateur astronomers. "This festival is part of the efforts made by Al Akhawayn University to disseminate scientific knowledge to the general public and promote science and scientists among young people to stimulate their interest in science and technology," the initiators specify. What may make this edition special is the presentation, according to a statement from the initiating university, of the French version of four art videos, produced in 2014. This year's event will also be marked by a project in partnership with the Ifrane prefecture, the Network of Amateur Astronomers of Morocco (RAAM), the UNAWE-Morocco programme, the Casablanca Astronomy Association (ACA), and the CITI Association for the promotion of innovative technologies in science education. That being said, the festival is intended, according to the same source, to be a platform for young people where scientific culture is a source of entertainment and enrichment and a discovery of the world, through several activities: workshops, competitions, astro mornings for children, and exhibitions. The event will also see the organisation of a set of conferences led by several renowned professors, such as Abdelkhalek Cheddadi, Youssef El Aoufir, Samir Kadiri and Hassan Talibi. It will also see the holding of several activities: sky observation nights, astro workshops for young people, astro mornings for children, exhibitions, competitions, debates, meetings, and screening of artistic videos in order to create exchanges between the public and astronomers and popularise astronomy and its concepts among the population of the Ifrane region. On the sidelines of this festival, the 3rd edition of the Galileo Teacher Training Programme (GTTP) will take place at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, a training course from which about forty teachers benefit through practical workshops in space sciences intended for schoolchildren.
