6th International Conference on Migration in Ifrane

Moroccans living abroad (MRE) will be on the agenda on May 18th and 19th in Ifrane. In everyone's interest, the analysis of migratory flows is essential to develop fluid and sustainable actions. For two days, the organisers of the 6th International Conference on Migration and Development will provide an opportunity for debate. A debate by experts in the field that the event's organisers, namely the World Bank, the Centre for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) in Marseille, the University of Lille 1 (EQUIPPE), the French Development Agency (AFD), the Center for Global Development (CGD) and, of course, the Ministry in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad (MCRME), will allow for the treatment of the main angles inherent to the migration issue and its development across the various continents of the globe.

On the menu, the models and drivers of Moroccan migration in the last century will be deciphered by British expert Hein de Haas from the University of Oxford. The question relating to migration and social networks will be addressed by Yves Zenou from Stockholm University.

In short, the panel of experts aims to be representative to demonstrate the real importance of migratory flows in a global environment in full mutation, where the economic crisis has quickly changed the situation and displaced populations from one continent to another. The stakes are very high regarding the balance of populations and the securing of migratory methods.

The Moroccan diaspora alone, officially numbered at 5 million according to consular figures, should represent Morocco outside its borders... It remains the case that the fragmentation of communities, even if driven by a desire to contribute to the country's influence, makes the exercise difficult... Their valorisation, however, remains essential to attract potential investors and consolidate bridges with the second generation of MREs...
