Ifrane continues to establish itself as a tourist destination of choice for lovers of mountain tourism at the national level. Indeed, the number of overnight stays recorded in classified tourist accommodation establishments in Ifrane in 2012 recorded an increase of 53% compared to 2011, with 175,003 overnight stays, against 114,452 a year earlier. Furthermore, in 2012, more than 84,399 tourists stayed in classified tourist accommodation establishments, against 61,273 the previous year, an increase of 38%. As for the occupancy rate of rooms in classified tourist accommodation establishments in Ifrane, it stood at 24%, against 18% in 2011, an increase of 6 points. Hotel residences have the highest ratio (43%), followed by guest houses with a rate of 36%. According to the latest report of the provincial delegation of tourism of Ifrane on hotel attendance, these positive results recorded in 2012 are essentially due to the good performances achieved by national tourists. Thus, with 157,281 overnight stays, national tourists accounted for 90% of total overnight stays, marking an increase of 58%, in comparison with 2011. For its part, foreign clientele generated 17,722 overnight stays in 2012, against 14,650 the previous year, an increase of around 21% and a share of 4% of total overnight stays. From the figures on the nationalities of foreign tourists who visited the city of Ifrane, during 2012, it emerges that the French occupy the first step of the podium, with 4,216 overnight stays, which constitutes an increase of 8% compared to the 2011 financial year. Behind the French, it is tourists originating from Arab countries who arrive in second position with a volume of 3,818 overnight stays and a growth of 104%. They are followed by Spanish tourists who recorded overnight stays up by 23%. It should be noted that non-residents, all nationalities combined and without exception, recorded good performances compared to the 2011 financial year. Concerning accommodation, hotel residences achieved the most important share of overnight stays, i.e., 71% of the global volume. They thus recorded 123,667 overnight stays, a progression of 86% compared to 2011. Despite this upward trend in tourist activity in Ifrane, the average duration of stays did not evolve and stabilised at two overnight stays. This observation is explained by the short-duration stays, recorded as much by resident tourists as by non-residents.
Only tourists coming from Africa and Arab countries stayed longer, i.e., respectively an average of 9 and 3 days. It should be remembered that this good dynamic of the tourist sector in Ifrane was already manifested in 2011 by an increase of 100% in arrivals and 80% in overnight stays, compared to the 2010 financial year.
