Amazigh culture in the spotlight

Amazigh culture in the spotlight

"Amazighity: roots and extensions" is the theme of the ninth edition of the National Festival of Amazigh Culture of Guercif, which will be held from 27 to 29 July. Initiated by the Adrar-Guercif Association in partnership with the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) and the Agency for the Development of the Northern Provinces, this festival aims, according to a press release, to contribute to making Berber cultural and artistic potential known, to encourage artistic groups through their participation in ceremonies in their honour and to create artistic and recreational activities for the benefit of the population of the city of Guercif. This event, which benefits from the support of the Ministry of Culture, the province of Guercif and local authorities, also aims to promote the culture of tolerance and the fight against all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism and to contribute to the development of cultural tourism.

The programme for this festival includes a multitude of cultural, artistic and intellectual activities, including exhibitions of Berber products (weaving, books, art objects, etc.), with the participation of several associations and cooperatives from the provinces of Guercif, Khénifra, Meknès, Séfrou, Boulemane and Midelt. The Festival also offers artistic concerts hosted by Amazigh and folk groups, as well as the performance, for the first time, of a symphony of the oriental Reggada with the participation of 24 artists from the province of Guercif, in addition to a workshop on the Tifinagh alphabet and the screening of the film "Aghrabou" by filmmaker Ahmed Baidou.

Debates are also planned covering several themes such as "The National Council for Languages and Cultures, what future for Amazigh", "Amazigh in the media", "The creativity of Amazigh cinema, realities and perspectives". A book signing for "Among the personalities of the Béni Ourayne of Guercif: Mohammed Ben Abdelkrim Ait Sebbah" by author Said Ardif is also planned in addition to several other activities.
