The 8th edition of the Es-Semara International Hassani Comedy Festival opened on Tuesday evening under the theme "Es-Semara, crucible of culture and crossroads of creators".
Organized by the El-Habchi Association for the Seven Arts, this three-day artistic event features the participation of a bevy of talented comedians from the various southern provinces, in addition to artists from Mauritania.
The opening ceremony of this event, which took place in the presence of, among others, the Governor of Es-Semara province, Brahim Boutoumilate, and elected officials, was marked by a strong tribute paid to several artistic figures who have left their mark on the local and national scene.
Speaking on this occasion, the Director of the Es-Semara International Hassani Comedy Festival, Omar Mayara, emphasized that this event offers a space for the exchange of expertise and knowledge and a place for intellectual dialogue on ways to promote Hassani theatrical practice in the southern provinces.
This artistic event also aims to create cultural animation in the city of Es-Semara, the cultural capital of the southern provinces, especially since it offers the opportunity for budding creators to showcase their talents in the field of Hassani comedy.
In addition to the official competition which will be sanctioned by the designation of the "Stars of Sahara Comedy", this event includes a seminar on "The law relating to copyright and related rights", and a training workshop on humor and comedy shows for the benefit of amateurs of this artistic discipline among students of educational institutions.
Also on the menu are book signings, training workshops, and a tent for Hassani anecdotes, in addition to an evening of comedy shows, enhanced by poetic readings and folk performances drawing on Hassani heritage.
