El Menzel is the capital of the Beni Yazgha tribe (kabilat), which brings together many communes (Jamaâ) and Douars. The surroundings of El Menzel do not lack tourist interest. A few kilometres away are the once-abundant springs: Ain Tinedrine, Ain Ouamandare, and especially Ain Sebou, which gives its name to one of the most important rivers in Morocco: Oued Sebou. At 51 km, Mount Bouyblane, which rises to over 3,000 m, is covered in snow from the month of November.
El Menzel has become a town with a significant population. The latter has left the small surrounding villages in search of water and electricity, which are cruelly lacking in these villages, and to get closer to places of work and schooling.
Like many small towns in Morocco, El Menzel has seen its population increase sharply in recent years without the infrastructure following suit. Development funds are sorely lacking, and investment projects in all sectors are almost non-existent.
