In coordination with a group of stakeholders in the maritime fishing sector, the gendarmerie services apprehended a Mitsubishi truck transporting about ten crates containing two tonnes of octopus illegally destined for an industrial unit in the city of Al-Marsa, 25km southwest of Laâyoune. According to well-informed sources, the vehicle transporting the fish was driven by the son-in-law of the president of the Coastal Fishing Association. They indicated that the octopus had been offloaded from a ship belonging to Mazine. All of the seized products were incinerated this Thursday, June 27, under the supervision of representatives from the Ministry of Fisheries and the National Office of Fisheries, and in the presence of the gendarmes who carried out the operation. The file has been forwarded to the judiciary for investigation and prosecution of the driver and his accomplices. This is not the first time that octopus traffickers have been arrested or reported.
The novelty this time is that the product was illegally offloaded from a fishing boat.
