Kelaâ des Sraghna is the 55th city to be declared a slum-free city at the national level and the 3rd city at the regional level after Essaouira and Tamelalt, as indicated by Nabil Benabdellah.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Policy, Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, presided on Friday in Kelaâ des Sraghna over the ceremony announcing Kelaâ des Sraghna as a slum-free city, as part of the "Cities without Slums" programme launched in July 2004 by H.M. King Mohammed VI.
Kelaâ des Sraghna is the 55th city to be declared a slum-free city at the national level and the 3rd city at the regional level after Essaouira and Tamelalt, indicated Nabil Benabdellah in a statement to the press, noting that achieving this objective is likely to improve the living conditions of the populations.
"The Ministry will continue to implement government programmes aimed at promoting social housing, combating substandard housing, upgrading cities, and increasing their competitiveness at the local and national levels to encourage them to attract more investment," he added.
With a total investment of 189.79 million DH, this programme has benefited 22,200 inhabitants in the city of Kelaâ des Sraghna.
This programme has enabled the upgrading of 8 neighbourhoods over a total area of 104 hectares, through the construction of roads, the improvement of living conditions for 4,000 families, and the integration of these neighbourhoods into the city's urban fabric.
The relevant ministry contributed 89.25 million DH to this project, the General Directorate of Local Authorities contributed 54.25 million DH (construction of a local community centre), the territorial authorities contributed 7 million DH (financing of drinking water supply), and the National Office for Drinking Water contributed 11 million DH for the construction of infrastructure related to drinking water.
Regarding the regional programme for the treatment of substandard housing in the province of Kelaâ des Sraghna (2011-2016), a total amount of 240 million DH was allocated to it. Nearly 5,757 families will benefit from this regional programme over an area of 107.70 hectares (the progress rate of the works is 80%), while 20 neighbourhoods in seven centres are concerned.
The ministry contributed 90 million DH, the General Directorate of Local Authorities (17 million DH), the Ministry of Finance (50 million DH), and the beneficiaries (89 million DH).
