A police officer from El Aïoun Sidi Mellouk, located in the north-east, not far from the Algerian border, was forced, on Sunday morning, to fire a warning shot to stop two smugglers who were on board an Opel Omega, we learn from a police source.
The same source specified that the two smugglers brandished two swords in front of the police officer and his colleagues to dissuade them from approaching.
Still according to the same police source, the two smugglers who were taking the road towards the Moroccan-Algerian borders attempted to force their way through a police checkpoint established at the eastern entrance of the city of El Aïoun Sidi Mellouk bound for Oujda.
Alerted, police officers were mobilised to support their colleagues and neutralise the two smugglers. It turned out that the two smugglers were from the city of Oujda and that the car's number plates were fake.
