Like other regions of the Kingdom, the inhabitants of the Chichaoua province are suffering from the deplorable sanitary conditions prevailing there.
The best example of this deterioration in the situation is undoubtedly the Mohammed VI provincial hospital. The many patients who go there to be seen by a specialist are told either that the attending physician is on holiday or that the specialty does not even exist at the hospital. This led some female residents of Hay Mohammadi to hold a sit-in in front of the hospital on the 4th and 5th of the current month. In doing so, they are denouncing the death of an infant due to the negligence of those in charge.
The protesters intend to return to the fray on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to their version, the mother arrived at the hospital with her baby, who was suffering from breathing difficulties, on December 29th. She found neither doctors nor nurses to help him.
As the ambulance to transport the baby to Marrakech was not available, she had to resort to the service of a private ambulance. Unfortunately, her baby died in the meantime. She recalled that every time she had used the services of the Mohammed VI hospital, she had always suffered from the same reception conditions.
It should be noted that several members of the provincial council have sounded the alarm regarding the deplorable sanitary conditions in the province. They have protested to the delegate of the Ministry of Health about the lack of specialist doctors. Relying on doctors coming from Marrakech once a week is only a palliative solution.
Furthermore, it should be remembered that the road connecting Marrakech and Agadir through Chichaoua is one of the deadliest at the national level, which makes it mandatory to equip the provincial hospital with both equipment and human resources.
