Medical campaign in the Guelmim province

Medical campaign in the Guelmim province

The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Moroccan Medical Solidarity Association and the Agency for the Development of the Southern Provinces, launched a multidisciplinary medical campaign last Saturday for the benefit of the population of Bouyzakarn, in the Guelmim province. This two-day campaign, organised with the support of the "Phosboucraâ" foundation, is part of the "Riâaya" operation recently launched by the Ministry of Health to strengthen medical coverage in isolated rural areas and those affected by the recent rainfall, and to ensure basic health services for populations affected by the recent floods. "This global and comprehensive campaign provides for the carrying out of some 2,500 medical examinations in several specialties, 80 cataract surgeries, and 30 general surgery interventions," indicated Mustapha Benazzouz, president of the Moroccan Medical Solidarity Association, at the launch of the caravan. He added: "This caravan aims to provide the necessary support to the populations affected by the recent floods and to consolidate medical services at the level of this region, particularly in these exceptional conditions."

This campaign was supervised by a medical staff composed of 23 doctors specialising in gynaecology, dermatology, ophthalmology, paediatrics, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and pulmonology, in addition to several nurses. Let us recall that the Ministry of Health has mobilised, within the framework of the Riâaya operation, the human and material resources necessary to ensure the success of this operation, notably 763 medical teams, including 124 general practitioners and 200 specialists, 20 pharmacists, 314 nurses, and 105 drivers, in addition to 70 outpatient units and 45 ambulances, as well as 10 mobile medical clinics and two helicopters for the urgent transfer of patients.

"Riâaya" Operation

Launched on 15 December, the "Riâaya" operation, which continues until 30 March, aims to facilitate access to health services for vulnerable social strata. It concerns four regions, namely Guelmim-Essmara, Souss-Massa-Drâa, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, and Meknès-Tafilalet.

This operation includes two stages, the first extending from 15 December to 15 January, during which medical coverage will be strengthened in the affected regions and patients requiring special attention will be identified, while the second stage, which will take place from 16 January to 30 March, will be marked by the strengthening of medical coverage in mobile medical units and the execution of specialised caravans according to needs.

This large-scale operation also aims to intensify the activities of mobile units in remote regions and the care of patients through specialised medical caravans according to needs, noting that 1,056 visits to populations and 971 visits by mobile medical units will be scheduled and reinforced by 20 specialised medical caravans.
