CAF Cup: Renaissance Berkane wins against the Angolans of Lunda Sul

CAF Cup: Renaissance Berkane wins against the Angolans of Lunda Sul
In addition to leading the best defence in Morocco this season (5 goals conceded in 11 matches), Issoufou Dayo is establishing himself as the top scorer for Renaissance de Berkane, at 33 years old. The Burkinabe defender struck again on Wednesday evening on the occasion of the first day of the group stage of the African Confederation Cup, against GD Lunda Sul (2-0).

RSB signed a first victory thanks to the brace from its captain, who scored a goal in each half. Dayo thus opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing from close range a cross from the left flank. In the second half, the Burkinabe international doubled the lead in the 79th minute, thus securing the victory for RSB against the Angolans. Issoufou Dayo will therefore have managed four goals in one week with the Orientals, after his brace last Saturday against Hassania d'Agadir on the same pitch. A great harvest for a 33-year-old defender, who continues to give opposing defenders a hard time thanks to an excellent aerial game. On the same evening and for the same group, Stade Malien won against Stellenbosch FC (South Africa) with the same score of 2 to 0. Renaissance de Berkane and the representative of Mali therefore share first place in Group B, pending the second day which will see the Oranges travel to Stellenbosch FC.

Exempted from the first preliminary round due to its performances in previous years, RSB had eliminated the Beninese club Dadjè in the second round to reach the group stage. The representative of Morocco aspires to lift a third trophy this season, after those of 2020 and 2022, respectively won against Pyramids FC and Orlando Pirates (South Africa). Renaissance de Berkane had lost last year's final to Zamalek, which had also deprived the Orientals of the 2019 edition title (lost on penalties). During the previous edition, RS Berkane had not lost any match in the CAF Cup, until the return leg of the final. The Oriental club, leader of the Botola Pro Inwi D1, boasts the best defence this season with 5 goals in 11 matches. The Oranges will face Difaâ Hassani d'El Jadida next Sunday on the occasion of the 12th day and will be in search of a seventh consecutive victory.
