A campaign for the collection and destruction of plastic bags was launched last Monday in Berkane, during a meeting chaired by the governor of the province, Abdelhak Haoudi.
This operation is part of the efforts to valorise environmental programmes aimed at fighting pollution, by promoting investment in renewable energies and fighting against plastic bags throughout the national territory, indicates a press release from the Berkane province.
The press release underlines the importance of enlightening local public opinion on environmental issues, with a view to contributing collectively to the consolidation of interest in this vital area, as well as the mobilisation of all actors to protect the environment.
This campaign is organised in accordance with the objectives of framework law no. 99-12 on the National Charter for the Environment and Sustainable Development, and in application of the provisions provided for by law no. 77-15 on the prohibition of the manufacture, import, export, marketing, and use of plastic bags.
Abdelhak Haoudi called for the synergy of efforts, within a participatory framework, in coordination with the various actors to make this operation a success, through awareness-raising and information (leaflets, direct contact with the population of the province in schools and mosques) on the need to protect the environment and fight against pollution.
On this occasion, a provincial monitoring commission was created, responsible for the implementation of the national programme for the collection and destruction of plastic bags, knowing that this structure will have the mission of preparing a work plan for the collection and destruction of plastic bags, in addition to the coordination and accompaniment of the implementation of the said operation, it is specified.
Several measures have been taken within the framework of this campaign, namely the determination of the places of proliferation of plastic bags in the province and their collection, to facilitate their transport to waste incineration units in compliance with safety and hygiene conditions, in addition to the preparation of monthly monitoring and control reports and the development of an awareness programme.
