General mobilisation for the success of the school year in Berkane

The measures and provisions planned to guarantee the success of the 2014-2015 school year were at the centre of a meeting organised recently in Berkane. During this meeting, chaired by the governor of the Berkane province, Abdelhak Haoudi, the participants recalled the speech of H.M. King Mohammed VI delivered on the occasion of the Revolution of the King and the People, in which the Sovereign wished to pay tribute to education professionals, men and women, particularly those working in rural areas, for their efforts dedicated to the training of generations of qualified executives who have contributed to the implementation of development projects. All provincial authorities are mobilised to guarantee the success of the projects and works initiated in this sector, and to make the issue of education one of the central concerns of local officials and elected representatives, stressed Mr. Haoudi, in the context of this meeting which took place in the presence of local authorities, presidents of urban and rural communes and the provincial delegate of the Ministry of National Education. Mr. Haoudi also recalled the efforts made to strengthen school provision through the creation of two high schools, two schools, a boarding school, a Provincial Centre for Information and Guidance Assistance, with a total investment of nearly 40 million dirhams (MDH), adding that a first university nucleus was created in Sidi Slimane Chra'a as well as a technical university in Saidia. The governor also stressed the need to effectively get involved in the Royal "1 Million Schoolbags" initiative which has received support from the Provincial Council (250,000 DH), local authorities (760,000 DH), and the National Initiative for Human Development (180,000 DH). During this meeting, the speakers reviewed the measures taken to deal with transport problems in certain rural communes and peripheral neighbourhoods of Berkane, noting that 19 buses and 180 bicycles were distributed by the INDH to the most disadvantaged areas. The provincial delegate of the Ministry of National Education, Mohamed Touil, presented on this occasion a report on the 2013-2014 school year, the development of quality indices according to cycles, the forecasts for the 2014-2015 school year, as well as the constraints and solutions requiring external support. Mr. Touil indicated that the student enrolment rate in the province could see an increase of 1.78% in general (3.23% in rural areas), with some 51,186 pupils in the different cycles, divided between primary (29,567), middle (more than 13,000) and secondary education.
