Agdz, whose name means 'resting place', is situated on the ancient caravan route connecting Marrakech to Timbuktu. Long the capital of the Mzgita region in the north of the Draa Valley, it played an important economic role. Later, due to the droughts of the 1970s-1980s and the ease of transport, it lost its importance, with a large part of the population forced to leave for the city to find work.
Dominated by Jebel Kissane, it is accessed from Ouarzazate via the road that crosses Jebel Tifernine at the Tizi n'Tinifift pass (1,660 m). The weekly Souk is held on Thursdays. There are also shops, especially on the main street, selling Berber rugs characteristic of the Taliouine region.
