The Head of Government also expressed his deep gratitude to HM King Mohammed VI, who decided to establish January 14, corresponding to the first day of the Amazigh year, as an official public holiday in Morocco, within the framework of the constitutional consecration of the Amazigh language.
The celebration of the Amazigh New Year is an occasion to highlight a cultural heritage carried by all Moroccans, continued Mr. Akhannouch.
During this ceremony, which took place in the presence of, notably, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, Said Amzazi, and the President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council, Karim Achengli, Mr. Akhannouch visited exhibitions of artisanal cooperatives and local products at Ibn Zaydoun Park, highlighting the works of artisans.
At the site of the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella, a tasting area for Amazigh dishes was set up, in addition to the organisation of music shows hosted by stars of Amazigh song.
Thus, a rich and varied programme of entertainment and activities was concocted by the Agadir commune for the celebration of the Amazigh New Year (Yennayer 2975).
This celebration, which will continue until the 17th of the current month, is in continuity with the Royal decision announced by the Sovereign to establish January 14, corresponding to the first day of the Amazigh year, as an official public holiday in Morocco.
The programme of festivities launched on the 10th of the current month covers 12 locations in the city, including public squares, gardens, and the Anza and Agadir promenades, with the goal of offering the inhabitants of the Souss capital and its visitors an exceptional opportunity to enjoy activities and events in a festive atmosphere.
Organised in partnership with the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council, and the "Timitar" Festival Association, the "Yennayer 2975" event aims to promote Amazigh culture as a fundamental element of Moroccan identity and to consolidate the values of coexistence and cultural openness.
