Transformation of industrial parks into eco-parks: The experience of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima highlighted in Riyadh
This meeting served as a platform for exchange and sharing of experiences and best practices in the development and management of industrial zones, improving their competitiveness, and attracting investments. Valorization: This participation allowed the officials of the CRI-TTA to promote regional initiatives aimed at strengthening the environmental performance and competitiveness of industrial ecosystems, while consolidating the region's attractiveness to international investors. The Regional Investment Center of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (CRI-TTA) continues to gain ground in promoting the Northern region in terms of industrial land supply, logistics, and economic activities in the territory. Thus, the Center took part in an international knowledge exchange workshop, organized as part of the Saudi Arabia Global Knowledge Hub, which has just ended in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This meeting, dedicated to the competitiveness and development of industrial eco-parks and attended by representatives from several countries, experts from the World Bank Group, and institutional actors in industrial development, served as a platform for exchange and sharing of experiences and best practices in the development and management of industrial zones, improving their competitiveness, and attracting investments. In this sense, Yassine Tazi, Director General of the CRI-TTA, presented, during a session dedicated to investment promotion, the experience of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region in developing and upgrading industrial zones into industrial eco-park models in the regional territory. On this occasion, the speaker highlighted structuring examples such as the Tangier industrial zone (Mghogha) and the industrial acceleration zones, in particular the Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City and Tangier Automotive City (TAC). "This participation allowed for the promotion of regional initiatives aimed at strengthening the environmental performance and competitiveness of industrial ecosystems, while consolidating the region's attractiveness to international investors," according to the CRI-TTA. It should be recalled that the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region has been experiencing an increase in demand for industrial land for over fifteen years, thus confirming its positioning as the second economic hub in Morocco. The official opening of the first Mghogha industrial zone dates back to the early 70s, followed by the Tangier Free Zone (TFZ) in 1999. The installation and development of the Tangier port complex allowed for the creation in its wake of other industrial parks (such as Tangier Automotive City) managed as a whole by the company Tanger Med Zones. By hosting the Renault factory, the region acquired a specialized zone, exclusively dedicated to this industrial unit. Not to mention the new Tangier Tech industrial hub as well as other industrial zones and economic activity zones spread across all eight provinces and prefectures of the Northern region.
