Tangier: Partnership between IFC and CRI to strengthen the region's competitiveness
The Regional Investment Centre (CRI) of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) concluded a strategic partnership on Monday in Tangier to strengthen the region's competitiveness and attractiveness and support its economic development.

This partnership, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), will provide the CRI with targeted technical assistance and draw on international expertise and best practices to accelerate the region's economic transformation, according to a joint press release from the two institutions.

The signing ceremony, followed by the presentation of the IFC's report on the adoption of the industrial eco-park framework, developed during the preparatory phase of the partnership, marks a key step in the collaboration between the IFC and the CRI. The event brought together key players from the regional economic ecosystem, illustrating local synergies and a shared vision for sustainable development, reports MAP.

"This partnership marks a key step in positioning the region as a leading economic hub. Thanks to the IFC's expertise and SECO's support, we are creating the conditions for sustainable and competitive development," said the Director General of the CRI of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Yassine Tazi, quoted in the press release.

"Alongside the Wilaya, the Regional Council, and local economic actors, we are supporting companies in their transition to decarbonisation and their alignment with international standards, particularly through the establishment of certified eco-parks," he continued, adding that this initiative will enhance the region's attractiveness and its integration into global value chains, while promoting responsible investment and sustainable growth.

As part of this cooperation, the IFC is supporting the CRI in establishing the fundamental bases that will facilitate the decarbonisation of industrial zones, an essential lever for strengthening their sustainability and efficiency, attracting foreign investment, enhancing the export competitiveness of local companies, and stimulating job creation.
According to the press release, this cooperation will also strengthen investment promotion in strategic green sectors, such as logistics and electric vehicles.

For his part, the IFC's Maghreb Regional Representative, David Tinel, noted that the transition to a sustainable economy represents a unique opportunity for the region to attract more private investment and make it a strategic green industrial hub between Europe and Africa.

"Our partnership with the Tangier CRI will enable the region to strengthen its economic dynamism and accelerate its growth, affirming the strategic role of Regional Investment Centres as drivers of the local economy," he stressed.

As for Françoise Salamé Guex, Head of Economic Cooperation and Development at the Swiss Embassy, she affirmed that Switzerland is pleased to strengthen the business climate in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region by establishing a favourable framework for sustainable investments, in order to strengthen industrial competitiveness and stimulate the creation of qualified jobs, leading to prosperity for the region and the Kingdom.

The IFC actively supports the economic development of the Kingdom of Morocco, notably through an initial collaboration with the Marrakech-Safi CRI, followed by its partnership with the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima CRI, the press release notes, adding that the objective is to stimulate regional investments to strengthen competitiveness and promote inclusive economic growth.
