Rain, Thunderstorms & Snowfall Expected from Thursday to Saturday in Several Moroccan Provinces

The provinces of Larache, Ouazzane, Tangier-Assilah, Tétouan, Chefchaouen and Al Hoceïma will be affected by heavy rainfall and thunderstorms (50-70 mm) from 6 p.m. on Thursday to 3 p.m. on Friday, the DGM said in an orange weather alert.

During the same period, 40-50 mm of rain is expected in the provinces of MDiq-Fnideq, Fahs-Anjra, Taounate, Taza, Sidi Kacem and Kénitra, while the provinces of Béni Mellal, Ifrane, Khénifra, Berrechid, Mediouna, Casablanca, Benslimane, Settat, Skhirate-Temara, Salé, Safi, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Rabat, Essaouira, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taroudant and Chtouka-Aït Baha will experience heavy, locally thundery rain (25 - 40mm) over the same period.

In addition, snowfall (up to 50 cm) above 1,800m are forecast from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 10 a.m. on Saturday in the provinces of Azilal, Ifrane and Al Hoceïma, the DGM adds, specifying that the provinces of Taroudant, Midelt, Tinghir, Sefrou, Chichaoua, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Taza, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Guercif and Boulemane will experience snowfall (up to 30 cm) above 2,000m from Thursday at 9 p.m. to Saturday at 6 a.m.

Strong gusts of wind (70-85 km/h) will concern the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Tangier-Assilah, Tetouan, MDiq-Fnideq, Rabat, Skhirate-Temara, Kénitra, Salé, Nouaceur, Médiouna, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Benslimane, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Safi and Essaouira from 4 p.m. on Thursday to 9 a.m. on Friday.

The same phenomenon will affect the provinces of Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Jerada, Nador, Driouch, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Guercif, El Hajeb, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Meknès, Berkane, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, Taza, Khénifra, Midelt and Figuig, from Thursday at 4 p.m. to Friday at 7 p.m., the DGM concludes.

Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, snowfall and strong gusts of wind are expected from Thursday to Saturday in several provinces of the Kingdom, the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) says.
