During the oral questions session at the House of Representatives, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, indicated that the restoration work on National Road No. 16, connecting Jebha to Al Hoceima, damaged by the collapse of part of the road at the level of the Mtioua commune in the Chefchaouen province, is underway.
Regarding the deadline for completing the work, the ministry has launched studies to assess the time required for their completion, in order to clearly define the execution deadlines for the site and the reopening of the northern coastal road. Nizar Baraka reassured that road users will be informed of the opening of this local alternative route, as well as the traffic conditions on this route as soon as the work is finished.
In the meantime, the authorities have established a temporary diversion via Regional Road No. 412 connecting Jebha to Ouaouzgane on the Al Hoceima side, as well as National Road No. 2 connecting Issaguen to Bab Berred, and Provincial Road No. 4113 connecting Tamorrot to Jebha on the Chefchaouen side.

Opening up 3 million inhabitants
On the same occasion, Nizar Baraka took stock of road projects aimed at opening up rural areas and reducing disparities between the regions of the Kingdom. He indicated, in this regard, that a committee has been set up to define the priorities of each region, adding that the first phase of this project required a budget of 36 billion dirhams.
To date, this work, carried out in partnership with several government components, has made it possible to set up 22,000 km of roads, which has allowed the opening up of 3 million inhabitants in rural areas, according to the minister.
The second phase will be implemented soon, once the necessary agreements are finalised, in order to create new roads in rural areas, with a planned investment of 4 billion dirhams, the minister added. Regarding road maintenance, 500 kilometres will be maintained each year to improve the fluidity of the population's mobility, concluded Nizar Baraka.
