Rabat – The Ministry of Equipment and Water announced on Tuesday that its services in the province of Chefchaouen have taken a series of measures following the landslide that occurred on National Road No. 16 connecting Jebha and Al Hoceima, in order to ensure the continuity of traffic and the safety of road users.
The measures taken by the provincial transport and logistics services in the province of Chefchaouen primarily involved informing the provincial and local authorities, as well as road users, about the suspension of traffic on this section of the road and the installation of adequate signage on the sides of this section, indicating the prohibition of traffic in both directions, according to a ministry statement.
The measures also included coordination with the Royal Gendarmerie services to divert traffic to an alternative route and the mobilisation of 23 personnel, including 4 engineers, two technicians, nine machine operators, and 8 workers, in addition to several vehicles.
Road users will be informed of the opening of this local alternative route, as well as the traffic conditions on this route as soon as the work is completed, the same source notes, adding that in parallel, a thorough technical study will be carried out to find a radical and permanent solution to this problem, taking into account the difficult geotechnical and geographical specificities of the region.
It was specified that calls for tenders will be launched for the execution of the necessary works as soon as possible after the completion of the studies, noting that immediately after the incident and to ensure the continuity of traffic and the safety of road users, the ministry's services in the province worked to close this section and ensure a temporary diversion via regional road No. 412 connecting Jebha and Ouaouzgane on the Al Hoceima side, national road No. 2 connecting Issaguen and Bab Berred, and provincial road No. 4113 connecting Tamorrot and Jebha on the Chefchaouene side.
