Oujda – Development projects aimed at strengthening social and health infrastructure were inaugurated yesterday, Thursday, in Oujda, on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the launch of the Royal Initiative for the development of the Oriental region (March 18, 2003).
These projects, which add to the series of achievements implemented in the region to promote social and economic development, are part of the ongoing efforts at the regional level, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to promote sustainable development in the Oriental region.
Thus, the Wali of the Oriental region, Governor of the Oujda-Angad prefecture, Khatib El Hebil, accompanied by the President of the Regional Council, Mohamed Bouarourou, and local and regional elected officials and authorities, oversaw the inauguration of the Sidi Maafa Youth Center, which allows this segment of society to practice their educational, cultural, and sports activities.
This structure underwent renovation and equipment works, requiring an investment of approximately 4 million dirhams, within the framework of a partnership between the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Oriental Regional Council, and the Agency for the Promotion and Economic and Social Development of the Oriental Provinces.
The second project concerns the Dahr El Mahalla Vocational Training Center, the renovation works of which required more than 3.7 million dirhams. It is a space for training and learning for girls and women with the aim of enhancing their social and economic integration and developing their capabilities.
He also inaugurated the Maghreb Al-Arabi Reception Center, which was renovated on a covered area of 1,710 square meters at a total cost of approximately 2.37 million dirhams.
This structure, which underwent rehabilitation and expansion works and has a capacity of 80 beds, aims to provide a space for temporary accommodation for young Moroccans and foreigners and to improve their housing conditions, while providing various services, as well as organizing training courses, study days, and meetings to enhance the effective role of youth in the social and cultural fabric.
In a statement to the press, the Regional Director of the Youth Sector in the Oriental region, Najia Nour, explained that these three structures are considered important achievements that reflect the strategy of the supervising ministry aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving the quality of services provided in these spaces, in line with the needs and requirements of youth.
She confirmed that these spaces, which were previously limited to providing recreational and artistic activities, now provide opportunities for training and mentoring, which reflects a vision that focuses on youth as the core and spirit of society.
On the other hand, health infrastructure in Oujda was strengthened by the creation of the Integrated External Examinations Center at the Mohammed VI University Hospital, at a cost of approximately 25 million dirhams.
The Director of the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Oujda, Badr Serghini, explained that this project, which is being carried out within the framework of a partnership between the Oriental Regional Council and the University Hospital, aims to provide a suitable and humane space for users coming to undergo medical examinations.
He said that this institution, consisting of three floors, includes 39 rooms dedicated to external examinations and will also be equipped with a scanner, standard X-ray equipment, in addition to an internal laboratory unit dedicated to biological analyses, noting that this center will contribute significantly to relieving pressure on the current infrastructure at the University Hospital, while improving reception conditions and services provided to patients.
On the same occasion, the Wali of the region and his accompanying delegation visited the new headquarters of the Regional Directorate of Equipment and Water.
In this context, the Regional Director of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water in Oujda-Angad, Yassine Beloufi, explained that this building, which was a former headquarters for public works and was built before 1921, underwent restoration and renovation works with a budget of approximately 5 million dirhams, falling within the framework of the High Royal Directives aimed at reforming and modernizing the Moroccan administration.
He added that the project also comes in line with the ministry's policy aimed at modernizing and maintaining administrative buildings in order to improve the quality of services provided to users and citizens, noting that the main goal of the project is to improve working conditions for employees while preserving this cultural and civilizational heritage of this historical building, which is considered one of the oldest administrative buildings in the city of Oujda and the Kingdom.
