An accused person involved in the "Sahara Escobar" case for the misdemeanour of perjury has revealed dangerous facts related to the incident of the assault on the brother of the ex-wife of Abdenbi Bioui, the former president of the Oriental region, confirming that the latter was behind inciting him to provide false testimony.
The accused, "Boufelja B.", during the interrogation stage by the head of the Criminal Chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal this Friday, placed the former president of the Oriental region, a leader in the Authenticity and Modernity Party, in an unenviable position, after confirming that he asked him to provide testimony that a person had been assaulted, not knowing that he was the brother of his ex-wife.
The accused, during his appearance before the panel chaired by Councillor Ali Tarchi, expressed his regret for committing this criminal act of perjury, stating: "I made a mistake, and if I had known that it would reach this level, I would not have testified against Benmoussa (the brother of Bioui's ex-wife)."
This concerns, according to the judicial police reports, testimony provided by the aforementioned accused in a case of a fight that broke out between "Abdellatif B.", the brother of Abdenbi Bioui's ex-wife, and another person at the instigation of the president of the Oriental region in 2013, in order to pressure her to withdraw a complaint she had filed against him.
The detained accused, who appeared regretful for this act, continued: "Bioui asked me to testify against Benmoussa, and I did not know he was his brother-in-law until I recently entered prison, and if I had known that, I would not have done it."
The same accused added: "I made a mistake, Mr. Judge, and I know that perjury is one of the greatest sins, especially since I did not witness the incident of beating and assaulting Benmoussa, and this is a mistake I admit to."
After being questioned by the court as to whether Bioui had asked him to do so in exchange for a promise, he indicated that he had not made him any promise, stating that he was a friend of his father and asked him for this matter one day at the café where he used to have breakfast, noting at the same time that "Bioui assured me that the matter was simple, and it would be limited to testifying before the police and the matter would end."
In contrast, the accused "Rachid H.", who is also being prosecuted for perjury, confirmed that he provided his testimony based on the fight and brawl that took place between the brother of Bioui's ex-wife and a person named "Issam Eddine A.", denying that he was aware that the incident was intended to pressure the ex-wife of the "PAM" leader.
"Rachid H." recorded, while being heard by the court, that "I have no knowledge of Bioui's dispute with his wife, nor have I ever met Hassan Mani or agreed with him to fabricate the dispute with the brother of Bioui's wife in exchange for receiving a sum of money."
He stressed that he was not aware of any "scenario" that had been concocted regarding this incident, and he did not receive any promises to receive a sum of money from Bioui in exchange for testifying in this case, the events of which date back to 2013.
