Marrakech-Safi thus ranks second nationally with 15% of RNA registrants after the Casablanca-Settat region, according to data from the Regional Directorate of Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy.
The prefecture of Marrakech leads nationally in terms of RNA registrations and also ranks first regionally with 28,191 registrants (45%), followed by the provinces of Safi with 8,144 (13%), Al Haouz (7,857, 12%), El Kelâa des Sraghna (6,731, 11%), Essaouira (4,857, 8%), Chichaoua (3,800, 6%), Rehamna (1,945, 3%), and Youssoufia with 1,398 (2%), the same source specifies.
Furthermore, data from the regional directorate show that the turnover of the crafts sector stood at 7.4 billion dirhams (7% of national turnover), while the employment index reached 74,652 jobs (5% of the national total). It is noted that the sector's activities in Marrakech are heavily concentrated in architectural crafts, traditional clothing, and wood, representing approximately two-thirds of the turnover and employment in the region.
On the other hand, the Regional Directorate of Crafts indicated that support for artisans affected by the Al Haouz earthquake continued in 2024, with the processing of 1,084 requests for aid to rebuild damaged workshops, representing a rate of 87% (1,245 requests in total).
In this regard, a total of 1,084 artisans benefited from the first instalment of the 8,000 DH subsidy, according to the same source, which notes that 30% of these beneficiaries have almost completed the repair of their workshops.
Regarding the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by the earthquake, a partnership agreement was signed last year to rehabilitate old hotels housing craft workshops in the medina of Marrakech, where 36 affected hotels were identified with a budget of 94 million DH.
Several training courses were also organised last year for artisans in the affected communes of the Al Haouz province to strengthen their production capacities and support the production of new products that take into account market developments, in partnership with the Training and Qualification Centre for Craftsmanship Professions affiliated with the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
