A statement from the Council quoted Bentahar as saying during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Marrakech-Safi Regional Tourism Council held this Friday in the Red City, in the presence of the Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, Achraf Faiad, that the region recorded more than 12 million overnight stays, which reflects the strong attractiveness of this destination.
Bentahar added that the Marrakech-Safi region recorded an average occupancy rate exceeding 72 per cent, which confirms the positive momentum of the sector, highlighting that these exceptional achievements reflect the joint efforts between public and private actors to promote Marrakech as a preferred destination on a global level.
He stressed the need for Marrakech to invest in this strategic momentum to continue strengthening its competitiveness while maintaining a sustainable development approach, calling for increased efforts to position Marrakech as an essential and sustainable destination, similar to the major tourist capitals of the world, as well as to adopt a comprehensive approach for other destinations in the region and open new markets.
For his part, Faiad highlighted the importance of adopting a comprehensive approach that takes into account the tourism potential of the destinations belonging to the Marrakech-Safi region, confirming the commitment of the Moroccan National Tourism Office to support Marrakech in this momentum aimed at diversifying markets.
For their part, the heads of professional associations in the tourism sector praised the efforts of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, stressing the importance of adopting a proactive strategy to develop new international markets, particularly by strengthening air connectivity with distant markets such as Latin America, Asia and Africa, and intensifying promotional campaigns to attract tourists from these emerging regions.
