Es-Semara.. More than 4,200 families benefit from the rehousing programme for residents of substandard housing

This programme, which has been allocated a total budget of 532 million dirhams, aims to improve the living conditions and environment of families and reduce the housing deficit in the urban environment.

According to the data presented during the field visit carried out by the Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Governor of the Laâyoune province, Abdellah Bekkali, today, Thursday, accompanied by the Governor of the Es-Semara province, Brahim Boutoumilate, and a number of elected officials, this programme, which concerns the handover of core houses and serviced plots of land for the benefit of the families concerned, aims to facilitate access to all basic services, improve the urban landscape, and declare Es-Semara a city without slums.

In this context, the necessary equipment and human resources have been mobilised to carry out the demolition of slum dwellings, estimated at 3,724 houses over a total area of 317,778 square metres, before handing over the houses and serviced residential plots to the families concerned.

This project, which falls within the framework of the new development model for the southern provinces, is the subject of a multilateral partnership agreement between the General Directorate of Local Authorities (219.45 million dirhams), the Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy (232.75 million dirhams), the Agency for the Promotion and Economic and Social Development of the Southern Provinces (66.50 million dirhams), and the Provincial Council of Es-Semara (13.30 million dirhams).

During this visit, the Wali of the region and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the progress of the development works of the North Es-Semara subdivision, which concerns the second phase of the rehousing operation for the residents of the "Rbib" and "Kouiz" neighbourhoods, where the progress of the works has reached about 25 per cent.

This project, which is the subject of a multilateral partnership agreement, aims to equip 1,089 residential and commercial plots of land with a total investment exceeding 260 million dirhams, over an area of 24.38 hectares, with the company "Al Omrane South" as the delegated project owner.

To ensure the success of this operation, committees have been formed at the provincial level to ensure strict monitoring of the construction of these housing units in order to guarantee their quality as well as the quality of the infrastructure, and to ensure they are delivered within the specified deadlines according to the agreed schedules.

About 4,278 families have benefited from rehousing and housing operations within the framework of the rehousing programme for residents of substandard housing in the "Rbib" and "Kouiz" neighbourhoods in the Es-Semara province.
