Tan-Tan – During an educational ceremony held today, Friday, in Tan-Tan, 7 educational institutions in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region were awarded for the 2023-2024 academic year, as part of the “Eco-Schools” programme overseen by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.
These include five educational institutions that received the Silver Certificate: Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Primary School, Lahmada Primary School Group, Markala Primary School Group (Assa-Zag province), as well as the Battle of Dcheira School (Tan-Tan province), Sheikh Ma El Ainin Primary School (Sidi Ifni province), and two institutions that received the Bronze Certificate: Al-Inbiath School (Tan-Tan province) and Taklit Primary School Group (Guelmim province).
Students Maha Hayal and Amira Hassani from the 30 June Middle School in Sidi Ifni were also honoured for winning the awareness prize in the “Video Journalism” category for the 2023-2024 academic year, as part of the “Young Reporters for the Environment” programme.
This ceremony was organised on the sidelines of regional training workshops held by the Regional Academy of Education and Training on 25 and 26 December at the Ibn Al-Haytham Centre, part of the new Second Chance School in Tan-Tan, which targeted facilitators of the “Eco-Schools” and “Young Reporters for the Environment” programmes.
This training workshop, supervised by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, is part of the partnership between the Foundation and the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, which aims to promote environmental education and the work of environmental clubs in educational institutions.
This educational ceremony also served as an occasion to launch the “Eco-Schools” and “Young Reporters for the Environment” programmes for the 2024-2025 academic year.
In a speech on the occasion, the Director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training for the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, Abdelmajid Al-Sahl, praised the effective role played by educational staff across the region in instilling a spirit of ecological citizenship in the youth, consolidating their environmental awareness, sensitising them to environmental challenges, and making them aware of the impact of their daily behaviour on the environment.
He emphasised that this educational meeting comes within the framework of celebrating the educational institutions involved in the “Eco-Schools” and “Young Reporters for the Environment” programmes, in order to develop environmental awareness and the importance of preserving the environment among students, as well as developing communication skills and consolidating a culture of sound sustainable development within the school environment.
For his part, the National Coordinator of Environment and Sustainable Development Programmes at the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Moubarak Mouzine, confirmed that this meeting is an opportunity to honour the efforts of students, educational and administrative staff, and school partners, as well as to motivate them to continue the journey successfully, and to restore a spirit of confidence in the Moroccan school and enhance its position within society, considering that celebrating excellence and talent and adopting a culture of distinction and transforming it into an institutional culture comes in implementation of the frameworks governing comprehensive educational reform.
In turn, the Head of Environmental Education and Sustainable Development Programmes at the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, Meriem Khadari, confirmed that the Foundation, as a key partner of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, has worked to integrate sustainable development goals into curricula through training and educational activities and by providing pedagogical tools to facilitate students' understanding of the programmes, change their behaviour towards the environment for the better, and transfer what they practice inside the school to outside their surroundings.
This ceremony, hosted by Bir Anzarane School, was marked by the presentation of environmental artistic performances in which students from a number of schools involved in the “Eco-Schools” and “Young Reporters for the Environment” programmes excelled, as well as the organisation of an environmental exhibition produced by environmental clubs on waste recycling and reuse, energy, and rationalising water use, in addition to various singing, theatre, and poetry segments.
