The event allowed for fruitful exchanges between tourism professionals from both regions, and highlighted the diverse tourist potential of Fès-Meknès.
The French participants, including 14 travel agents and a representative of Montpellier airport, benefited from a 48-hour programme including visits to Fès, Meknès, Volubilis and the thermal resort of Moulay Yacoub.
In a statement to MAP, the President of the CRT Fès-Meknès, Ahmed Sentissi, stressed the strategic importance of this workshop with travel agents from Montpellier and its region.
He insisted on the role of these meetings to promote the Fès-Meknès destination to the French tourism market and to develop sustainable partnerships with professionals in the sector.
Mr. Sentissi recalled the constant efforts made by the CRT to diversify the regional tourism offer and adapt its promotional strategy to the requirements of the international market, particularly by focusing on niches such as cultural tourism, thermalism, ecotourism and golf.
He specified that this workshop was part of a broader strategy of collaboration with France, materialised by partnerships concluded with five French airports, including that of Montpellier, to increase air connectivity and the flow of tourists.
Mr. Sentissi also highlighted the CRT's desire to position the Fès-Meknès region as a leading tourist destination in Morocco and Africa, by capitalising on its cultural and historical wealth, the diversity of its landscapes and the quality of its infrastructure.
He notably mentioned the important tourist events organised by the region, such as the CRT Golf Cup and the FITAM, which contribute to strengthening its visibility and attractiveness to national and international tourists.
These partnerships with French airports, he added, are essential to facilitate access to the region and support the growth of the tourism sector.
In a similar statement, the director of a travel creation agency in Montpellier, Thierry Vallon, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the tourist potential of the Fès-Meknès region, saying he was "pleasantly surprised" by the cultural and historical wealth of Fès, as well as by the security and cleanliness that prevail there.
With 40 years of experience in international tourism, he stressed the importance of further developing the region's cultural tourism product to attract European clientele.
Mr. Vallon highlighted his intention to create two tourist circuits (4 and 6 days) specifically dedicated to the Fès-Meknès region, in partnership with airlines, and encouraged the CRT to continue its efforts to promote this unique destination to the European market.
He concluded by affirming his conviction that Fès-Meknès possesses all the assets to become a flagship destination for cultural tourism.
