The total population of the Fès-Meknès region experienced a demographic growth of 5.5% between 2014 and 2024, rising from 4,237,000 to 4,468,000 inhabitants, according to the initial results of the 2024 General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH). According to data from the Regional Directorate of the High Commission for Planning (HCP) of Fès-Meknès, the number of households in the region rose from 919,000 in 2014 to 1,135,700 in 2024, an increase of 23.5%. The average household size in the region is 3.9 individuals in 2024, compared to 4.6 in 2014.
The Fès-Meknès region contributed 7.8% to the overall growth of the Moroccan population between the last two censuses, the same source specifies. Approximately 2,200,000 individuals reside in the prefectures of Fès and Meknès, representing more than 49% of the region's population.
The population of the Fès prefecture rose from 1,150,131 inhabitants in 2014 to 1,256,172 (an increase of 106,041 inhabitants). That of Meknès has reached 942,945 currently, compared to 835,695 inhabitants ten years earlier.
Similarly, the population of the Boulemane province rose from 197,596 individuals in 2014 to 205,411 in 2024, while the El Hajeb province now has 267,156 inhabitants compared to 247,016 in 2014 (+20,140 individuals).
The population of the Taounate province fell to 612,650 individuals in 2024 compared to 662,246 in 2014 (a decrease of 49,596 individuals). In the Moulay Yacoub province, the number of inhabitants rose from 174,079 individuals in 2014 to 216,954 in 2024 (+42,875 individuals), while the population of the Taza province went from 528,419 individuals in 2014 to 500,971 in 2024 (a decrease of 27,448 individuals).
According to the same data, the population of the Sefrou province rose from 286,489 in 2014 to 304,748 individuals this year (+18,259 individuals), while the population of the Ifrane province went from 155,221 individuals to 160,904 during the same period (+5,683 individuals).
The urban population increased by 291,146 inhabitants over the last ten years, rising from 2,564,220 individuals in 2014 to 2,855,366 in 2024. The prefectures of Fès and Meknès alone concentrate 70% of the total urban population of the region.
Regarding the rural population in the region, it decreased by 60,127 individuals, falling from 1,672,672 in 2014 to 1,612,545 in 2024.
