The members of a Chilean parliamentary delegation praised, on Friday in Dakhla, the socio-economic achievements and the development momentum that the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region is experiencing in various fields.
During this visit, the Chilean delegation, led by the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile, Karol Cariola, and the Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, Matias Walker, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the region's Wilaya, Abderrazak El Gourji, during which the Chilean parliamentarians expressed their admiration for the aspects of development and progress that the region is experiencing at all levels.
Likewise, they welcomed the quality of the infrastructure and investments implemented in the region, as in other regions of Morocco, noting that Dakhla-Oued Eddahab has a promising future thanks to the major projects currently under construction.
Referring to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the members of the Chilean delegation reiterated their country's constant support for the process led by the UN with a view to reaching a just, pragmatic, sustainable, realistic, viable, definitive, and mutually acceptable solution to this conflict, within the framework of the Autonomy Initiative presented by Morocco to the United Nations in April 2007. During this meeting, which was attended in particular by elected officials, representatives of human rights bodies, and civil society actors, the Secretary General of the region's Wilaya, Abderrazak El Gourji, stressed that this visit constitutes an ideal opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations, highlighting the all-out development momentum in the region, which has had a positive impact on the well-being of the population. In a statement to the press, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile indicated that her visit to Dakhla was an opportunity to see for herself the development that the region is experiencing, describing this momentum as "interesting and impressive".
Ms. Cariola also highlighted the major projects launched in the region, citing in particular the Dakhla Atlantic port, the Dakhla seawater desalination plant, and the enormous investments in the field of renewable energies. For his part, the Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, Matias Walker, indicated that this visit made it possible to learn about all the investment efforts made in different sectors, expressing the wish to benefit from the Moroccan experience in several fields.
For his part, the Chilean senator, Francisco Chahuán, praised the Initiative of HM King Mohammed VI aimed at facilitating the access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, adding that his country considers Morocco as its gateway to the African continent. On this occasion, the members of the Chilean delegation carried out a field visit to the Dakhla Atlantic port, where they followed a presentation given by an official from the Regional Investment Centre on the megaprojects completed or currently under construction.
