The High Commission for Planning said that the results of the General Census of Population and Housing showed that most educated residents aged 10 years and over can read and write in Arabic (99.2%), while 1.5% stated that they can read and write in Amazigh using the Tifinagh script.
As for foreign languages, according to the results of the 2024 General Population Census, "the percentage of educated people who can read and write in French is 57.7%, in English 20.5%, in Spanish 1.2%, and in other languages 1%."
The data of the Planning Commission, which were revealed in a press conference by Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, the High Commissioner for Planning, today, Tuesday, indicate that "proficiency in French and English is more widespread in urban areas, where the rate reaches 64.3% and 25.2% respectively for educated people aged 10 years and over, compared to 42.1% and 9.6% in rural areas."
