From the province of Zagora, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity began its programme of local medical campaigns during the period between 17 and 19 January, which aims to facilitate access to basic healthcare in remote areas and provide specialised surgical services, through the organisation of a mobile surgical medical campaign to remove "cataracts".
This initiative falls within the framework of supporting the health offer provided by the mobile medical units - Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity for telemedicine, which began operating in November 2023. This campaign targets the residents of the Fzouata and Tighbalt communes whose cases were diagnosed during their medical follow-up at the Tinfou and Ait Menad units.
In total, 150 eye surgeries were covered through this solidarity work, which gave many patients the opportunity to recover their vision and resume their normal activities naturally.
In this regard, the head of the Medical and Humanitarian Pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, Omar Moussa Abdellah, indicated that the Foundation launched its annual programme for 2025 from the Zagora province, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, with the aim of bringing specialised care services closer to citizens in remote areas, especially vulnerable groups and people with special needs.
He added in a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) agency that significant logistical and human resources have been mobilised to implement this operation, especially the existing facilities of the mobile medical units - Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity for telemedicine, but also reception spaces and 5 medical units that were specifically set up for this operation, including surgical operating rooms, an ophthalmology consultation unit, a biology unit, and a pharmacy.
He explained that 50 staff members were mobilised, including specialised doctors, social workers, and the Foundation's logistics team, in addition to volunteer specialists provided by the Moroccan Medical Association for Solidarity.
In a similar statement, Dr. Soumia Jedidi, from the Medical and Humanitarian Pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, highlighted that patients benefited from medical consultations and diagnoses at the mobile medical units in order to examine their health status and eligibility for surgery.
She added that the patients who underwent the operations benefited from medical monitoring and support, in addition to the free distribution of medicines that will enable them to live their lives normally.
For their part, many beneficiaries of this humanitarian medical campaign expressed their deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the great attention His Majesty pays to the population of rural and remote areas.
They highlighted the continuous efforts made by the Foundation and its partners, which aim, among other things, to expand and improve the rural population's access to high-quality specialised care.
The implementation of this solidarity campaign relies on close cooperation between the Foundation, local authorities, the provincial delegation of health and social protection, and the Moroccan Medical Association for Solidarity, ensuring optimal case management and effective coordination.
It is worth noting that the Foundation organised during 2024 four medical campaigns for cataract surgery in the provinces of Amizmiz, Chichaoua, Sefrou, and Boulemane, which allowed for the implementation of 398 surgical interventions and 833 ophthalmology consultations.
