This meeting, chaired by the Governor of Tinghir province, Ismail Haikal, in the presence of provincial and security authorities and heads of decentralised services, provided an opportunity to discuss a set of measures taken within the framework of the national plan to mitigate the effects of the cold wave.
In his speech on the occasion, the Governor emphasised the need for the concerted efforts of the authorities and all decentralised services and relevant parties to provide appropriate support and protection to the population facing the harshness of winter, calling on the relevant services to pay special attention to the residents of the affected areas in implementation of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and to mobilise all necessary human and logistical resources to face the risks associated with the cold wave the province is experiencing.
Mr. Haikal said that the provincial plan to mitigate the effects of the cold wave targets more than 4,800 families and 80 Douars located in mountainous areas, and urged the relevant services to take the necessary proactive measures to mitigate the effects of cold waves and climatic fluctuations on the population, while stressing the need to strengthen support and assistance, especially for vulnerable groups.
The meeting was marked by the presentation of detailed reports by representatives of the sectors affected by the cold wave, highlighting the efforts made to mitigate the impact of the cold wave on the province's population.
In a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), the Provincial Director of National Education, Preschool and Sports in Tinghir, Mohamed Fadel, indicated that more than 170 tonnes of firewood were distributed to educational institutions in the province during the months of September and October, in addition to scheduling periodic visits to boarding schools to inquire about students' needs and distribute food and blankets to enable students to continue their studies in the best possible conditions.
For his part, the Provincial Delegate for Health and Social Protection, Tayeb Mustapha, reported the scheduling of several medical caravans aimed at bringing health services closer to the residents of areas affected by cold waves, noting that within the framework of the "Riaya" operation, four mobile medical units are providing medical services at the level of the targeted communes in various specialties, including ophthalmology, gynaecology, ultrasound, radiology, and others.
In implementation of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Ministry of Interior services, along with all relevant ministries, departments, and various actors, have mobilised to take emergency measures concerning the comprehensive mobilisation of all logistical means and human resources, with the aim of providing support and assistance to citizens so they can face the cold wave being experienced in several regions of the Kingdom.
In this regard, regional Walis and provincial Governors were called upon to mobilise to monitor the situation's developments, coordinate intervention operations, and take the necessary proactive and preventive measures through a series of actions aimed at easing the burden on the population.
