The provincial and local joint control commissions in the province of Tetouan seized and destroyed, during the first 20 days of the month of Ramadan, more than 517 kg of food products unfit for consumption.
According to data from the division of economic affairs and coordination of the province of Tetouan, the provincial and local joint commissions for the control of prices and quality of consumer goods carried out, during the first 20 days of the month of Ramadan, control operations at 239 stores, which led to the seizure and destruction of 517.15 kg of food products unfit for consumption, the closure of three stores, and the issuance of 14 warnings.
During these field visits, 17 samples of meals and food offered to consumers were taken by representatives of the Provincial Delegation of Health and Social Protection for transmission to the laboratory.
The services of the division of economic affairs and coordination of the province of Tetouan activated throughout the week the national telephone number 5757 dedicated to receiving complaints and observations from consumers residing in the province regarding market supply, quality, and health safety.
They thus received 43 complaints until March 22 and scheduled interventions to follow up on complaints that require further processing.
The field visits of the joint commissions, scheduled in application of the instructions of the province of Tetouan, focused on the inspection and control of various wholesale and retail points of sale, grocery stores, and bakeries in urban areas, as well as weekly markets and stores located in the centres of territorial collectivities in rural areas, according to a well-established programme.
The commissions thus proceeded to check storage conditions, places for displaying goods and products, and preparation areas, as well as their compliance with health and safety standards, and the expiry date of the products used, in addition to the provision of health cards to workers.
These commissions were composed of representatives of local authorities, the National Security, the Royal Gendarmerie, the division of economic affairs and coordination of the province of Tetouan, the provincial delegation of health and social protection, the municipal hygiene office, the provincial delegation of trade and industry, and the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA).
