Taza.. About 1500 beneficiaries of a medical caravan on maternal and child health in the Ait Saghrouchen commune

This medical caravan, which was organised by the Taza province prefecture in partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development and the delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Taza, aimed to contribute to promoting maternal and child access to the right to health, and enabling pregnant women as well as women under 45 years old, girls aged 15, as well as children from 0 to 5 years old and newborns, to benefit from specialised medical services and examinations.

The services of this caravan included providing medical examinations and consultations that concerned 183 in general medicine, 99 in paediatrics, 87 in gynaecology and obstetrics, 30 ultrasound examinations, and 55 beneficiaries of breast cancer screening with the referral of two cases to the specialised centre in the city of Taza.

27 screenings for cervical cancer were also provided and four cases were referred to the reproductive health centre in Taza, 252 laboratory analyses, 150 screenings for AIDS, 16 screenings for syphilis, 52 blood pressure analyses, and 34 screenings for diabetes.

On the other hand, a total of 506 women were sensitised to the importance of promoting healthy and balanced nutritional culture for pregnant women, and encouraging breastfeeding, especially during the first six months of the child's life, in addition to diversifying children's nutrition, and continuing breastfeeding until they reach the age of two.

A parallel activity was also organised concerning the vaccination of students of the Ait Saghrouchen student house, within the framework of the annual plan to combat meningitis. It also saw the distribution of medicines worth 30,000 dirhams.

In a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse agency, the head of the Social Work Division at the Taza province prefecture, Ezzedine Loukili, confirmed that this caravan falls within a medical programme organised within the framework of implementing the third phase of the fourth programme of the National Initiative for Human Development "Advancing Human Capital for Future Generations" aimed at improving women's and children's access to a group of medical specialities.

He added that this medical caravan also included sensitisation and awareness activities, from which a group of women and children of the Ait Saghrouchen commune in the Tahla district – Taza province benefited, focusing in particular on family planning, reproductive health, post-natal medical follow-up, and the importance of conducting medical examinations for women during pregnancy and after childbirth.

For his part, the communication officer at the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Taza, Mohamed Arich, reported that this campaign saw the mobilisation of a medical team including 5 general practitioners, a specialist doctor in gynaecology and obstetrics, a doctor in community health, and 10 nurses, in addition to 10 administrators, assistants, and technicians.

He added that the treatments provided included providing a group of examinations and screenings, in addition to awareness and sensitisation sessions, and reviewing children's health records in order to catch up on vaccination against measles, and immunisation against meningitis.

It is worth noting that this medical campaign, held in coordination with the local authorities and the Ait Saghrouchen territorial commune, and the National Initiative for Development and Promotion of Rural Women association, comes within the framework of activating the fourth programme of the National Initiative for Human Development related to "supporting human capital for future generations," and especially the axis related to maternal and child health.

About 1500 women and children benefited, yesterday Tuesday in the Ait Saghrouchen territorial commune, from the services provided within the framework of a medical caravan on maternal and child health organised at the initiative of the Provincial Committee for Human Development.
