More than 3,000 women in precarious situations in the Taourirt province will benefit from medical campaigns organised by the Provincial Committee for Human Development (CPDH) within the framework of the second programme of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) relating to the support of people in precarious situations.
Launched on 24 December to continue until next March, these campaigns, conducted in partnership with the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Taourirt, the Provincial Delegation of National Mutual Aid, and the Association for the Fight against Diabetes in Taourirt, aim to strengthen health services for the benefit of the inhabitants of areas exposed to the effects of the cold wave.
This initiative stopped on Tuesday at the Nakhla Reception Centre, in the commune of El Aïoun Sidi Mellouk, to provide its medical services for the benefit of 101 women, who benefited on the occasion from medical consultations in various specialties, as well as the free distribution of medicines.
During this campaign, the beneficiaries were also informed and made aware of the dangers of hyperglycaemia to their lives, which manifest themselves in particular through cardiovascular, ocular, and renal diseases.
The Head of the "Social Action" service in the Taourirt province, Abdelkader Aouragh, stressed in a statement to MAP that these medical campaigns, organised within the framework of the activation of the INDH programme for supporting people in precarious situations, target more than 3,000 beneficiaries.
He explained that these campaigns will cover 33 reception centres and some health centres located in the communes of the province, noting that these last few days have seen the organisation of three campaigns in the commune of El Aïoun Sidi Mellouk, where 165 women benefited from services at the Aïn Lahjar Centre, 311 at the Aïn Defla Centre, and 149 women at the Al-Wifak Centre.
He added that the medical staff mobilised for this purpose ensures the consultation and diagnosis of the beneficiaries before determining the type of treatment or medical intervention that each case requires, in order to refer them to the provincial hospital of Taourirt for follow-up by specialists.
For his part, the president of the Association for the Fight against Diabetes, Ahmed El Kafi, indicated that this initiative aims to provide medical and paramedical services to the beneficiary women, in addition to medical awareness and guidance.
He added that the campaigns carried out so far have made it possible to refer 69 cases to specialties related to ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, cardiology and vascular medicine, orthopaedics, and other specialties.
For their part, beneficiary women highlighted the importance of this initiative, which allowed them to benefit from certain medical and paramedical services, especially since the commune of El Aïoun Sidi Mellouk does not have laboratories to perform medical analyses, and patients are therefore forced to travel to the city of Taourirt, located more than 50 kilometres from their commune.
They lamented that this long journey, which requires financial means, is not easy, especially in this period of low temperatures.
