These campaigns, which began on 24 December and are organised in partnership with the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Taourirt, the Provincial Delegation of National Mutual Aid, and the Association for Combating Diabetes in Taourirt, aim to enhance health services for the benefit of the population in areas exposed to the effects of the cold wave.
This initiative arrived today, Tuesday, at the Ennakhla Reception Centre in the commune of El Aioun Sidi Mellouk to provide its medical services to 101 women, who benefited from medical consultations, blood pressure measurement services, blood lipid measurement, diabetes screening and monitoring, as well as the distribution of free medicines.
During this campaign, beneficiaries were also made aware of the risks of high blood sugar levels, which manifest particularly in cardiovascular diseases, eye problems, and kidney failure.
The Head of the Social Action Division at the Prefecture of Taourirt Province, Abdelkader Ouragh, confirmed in a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) that these medical campaigns, organised within the framework of implementing the programme to support people in vulnerable situations of the National Initiative for Human Development, target over 3,000 beneficiaries.
He explained that these campaigns will be extended to 33 reception centres and some health centres in the province's communes, noting that the past few days saw the organisation of three campaigns in the commune of El Aioun Sidi Mellouk, where 165 women benefited from its services at the Ain El Hajar centre, 311 at the Ain Defla centre, and 149 at the Wifaq centre.
He pointed out that the campaign's medical staff works to identify and diagnose various medical cases before determining the type of treatment or medical intervention required for each case individually, and referring them to the provincial hospital of Taourirt for follow-up by specialists.
For his part, the President of the Association for Combating Diabetes in Taourirt, Ahmed El Kafi, highlighted that this initiative works to provide medical and paramedical services for the benefit of the beneficiaries, as well as health awareness, in addition to medical referral.
In this context, he noted that the campaigns organised to date have enabled the referral of 69 cases to specialties related to ophthalmology, gynaecology and obstetrics, cardiology, and orthopaedics, in addition to other specialties.
For their part, the beneficiaries expressed the importance of this initiative, which enabled them to benefit from some medical and paramedical services, especially since the commune of El Aioun does not have laboratories for medical analyses, forcing them to travel to the city of Taourirt, which is more than 50 kilometres away, with the associated difficulties of transport, especially during this period which experiences a drop in temperatures.
