Bouhouda (Taounate Province) – The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity launched, on Thursday, a major medical and surgical campaign in the commune of Bouhouda, located 17 km from Taounate, for the benefit of the province's population.
This initiative, which continues until March 22, is part of the Foundation's humanitarian medical activities related to the month of Ramadan.
Through this campaign, the Foundation aims to facilitate access to specialized medical examinations for 4,500 beneficiaries from the commune of Bouhouda and ten other neighboring communes.
A platform has been set up to provide specialized examinations, diagnose cataract cases, and provide a space dedicated to people with physical disabilities.
A reception and registration area, a vital signs measurement area, and examination areas for a range of specialties, including telemedicine, have also been mobilized.
These spaces have been reinforced with 11 mobile medical units covering various specialties, in addition to laboratory analyses, radiology, ultrasound, and the distribution of medicines.
In a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), the head of the humanitarian medical division at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, Noureddine Ratbi, confirmed that this platform allows for the care of patients in a range of medical specialties, such as obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, pediatrics, gastroenterology, and dentistry.
He added that "citizens also benefit from medical analyses, radiology, and ultrasound, as well as appropriate medication," explaining that "the most important feature of this campaign is the presence of a platform dedicated to telemedicine, which allows access to specialized examinations remotely."
He continued that this campaign is part of the national program of local medical campaigns organized by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
He noted that "this is the fourth campaign organized this year after similar campaigns in Zagora, Tan-Tan, and Berkane, noting that this program will continue throughout the year."
To ensure the smooth running of this campaign, significant technical, logistical, and human resources have been mobilized. A team of 120 people is participating, including doctors, staff, social workers, and Foundation technicians, in addition to 32 specialist doctors, including 8 ophthalmologists, 10 general practitioners, 20 nurses, and members of civil society associations who will support the population.
Mr. Ratbi explained, "Today, so far, about 1,500 beneficiaries have been taken care of and have benefited from all the services provided," adding, "We expect to take care of about 1,500 beneficiaries daily over three days, in addition to the surgical operations for cataract removal performed at the Taounate provincial hospital."
Following the examination he underwent at the fixed prosthetics department, Hicham expressed his deep gratitude to the Foundation in a statement to MAP.
This 41-year-old man, who lives in a commune neighboring Bouhouda, said, "I never thought I would benefit from such a medical service near my place of residence."
Suffering from partial paralysis in his right leg, he was able to receive examinations by a specialized team during this campaign. He said, "Previously, I had to travel to Fez to undergo examinations, which caused me great suffering. Today, I had the opportunity to be examined by a specialist doctor without the hassle of traveling, and I received a promise to provide a device suitable for my disability in the coming weeks."
He continued with great emotion, "This initiative by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has restored hope to people like me who live far from urban centers."
It is worth noting that the Foundation organized three similar campaigns between January and March 2025 in Zagora, Tan-Tan, and Berkane-Oujda, where 7,659 beneficiaries were treated, including 5,030 women, and 249 surgical operations and 14,874 medical examinations were performed.
According to the officials of this initiative, this campaign falls within the framework of the Foundation's approach, which aims to facilitate access to treatment for the most vulnerable groups and enable residents of rural and remote areas to benefit from multidisciplinary medical treatments.
The success of this initiative is based on partnership with local actors, especially local authorities, the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection of Fez-Meknes, the Provincial Delegation of Health and Social Protection of Taounate, the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez, the Provincial Hospital of Taounate, the Association of Friends of the Visually Impaired in Fez, the Provincial Association for Supporting Kidney Failure Patients in Taounate, the Issaad Association, and the Order of Dentists in Fez and its surroundings.
