Local voices from the Karama commune, in the Midelt province, have called for an investigation by the Ministry of Interior into the arbitrary exploitation of sand at a quarry near the Ker River in the Moukr area.
According to residents, the company overseeing the road works between Almo Ksar and Tite Naali Ksar is extracting sand and stones from the riverbed, leading to soil erosion. This threatens the safety of nearby homes and harms agricultural activities in the area, potentially causing an environmental disaster.
Residents also state that the agricultural lands adjacent to the river, which are small farms used for subsistence agriculture, were already damaged by floods in September. The company's work is widening the riverbed and poses a risk of a major disaster if further floods occur.
