This visit falls within the framework of the Malawi Economic Promotion Week in Morocco (from December 9 to 13), which aims to promote Malawi's economic potential in the Kingdom in various sectors of activity, in order to encourage the development of "win-win" business partnerships between Moroccan and Malawian actors.
This initiative comes within the framework of the initiatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, aimed at supporting the Kingdom's economic diplomacy at the continental level, through the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, and its partners.
The members of the delegation followed, at the headquarters of the Regional Council, a presentation on the regional development programme which includes various development projects, which fall within the framework of the new development model for the southern provinces.
The delegation learned through a presentation made at the Regional Investment Centre about the macroeconomic indicators in the region, and about the most important competitive advantages as well as the various promising sectors in the region.
The members of the delegation had held a meeting with the Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Governor of the Laâyoune province, Abdeslam Bekrate, during which the development process that the region is witnessing in various fields was highlighted.
On this occasion, the delegation made a field visit to a number of projects, during which it learned closely about the efforts made to ensure the comprehensive and integrated development of the region, including the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, the City of Trades and Skills, and the African Institute for Research in Sustainable Agriculture (ASARI) in Foum El Oued, affiliated with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.
The Chief Advisor to the President of the Republic of Malawi for Investment and Business, Benjamin Kesi Wandawanda, confirmed in a statement to the press that this visit was an opportunity to learn about the Kingdom's potential in various sectors, most notably renewable energies, industries, agriculture, and mineral exploitation.
Mr. Kesi Wandawanda added that the visit also aims to activate the bilateral cooperation committee, in order to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
The Malawian economic delegation, which is headed by the Chief Advisor to the President of the Republic of Malawi for Investment and Business, includes the General Manager of the Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Company, Thomson Nelson Komwenda, and the Chief Officer at the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre, Patricia Orline Kauba, as well as a number of senior officials in the public and private sectors in Malawi.
