Khenifra.. Joyful celebrations for "Yennayer Night"

The program for these celebrations, organized on the initiative of the (Rouh Ajdir Association) in Khenifra in partnership with the Municipal and Provincial Councils of Khenifra under the theme "Amazigh: A living conscience in a solidary society", includes a series of scientific and cultural activities celebrating the transition to the year 2975 according to the Amazigh calendar, featuring exhibitions of traditional crafts and seminars on Amazigh history and heritage.

It also concerns a scientific seminar moderated by a group of university professors and researchers on the subject of "The Amazigh language.. from the Constitution to the implementation of its official status", and exhibitions highlighting Amazigh ethnicity and choreography, and the female contribution to clothing, living products, the festive style, and Amazigh musical documents, as well as artistic evenings celebrating poetry and music, reflecting the richness of this cultural heritage.

In a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), the president of the (Rouh Ajdir Atlas Association) in Khenifra, Mohamed Yassine, stated that the association celebrates (Yennayer Night) as a commonality for all Moroccans, noting that the celebration program is characterized by the diversity of its scientific and cultural activities that celebrate Amazigh heritage in its various aspects.

Mr. Yassine explained that, wishing to give real momentum to these celebrations, the foundation decided to organize exhibitions highlighting the contributions of women in the fields of clothing and local products, in addition to other exhibitions reflecting the diversity and richness of Amazigh culture.

For his part, the president of the Provincial Council of Khenifra, Mr. Hamid El Babour, confirmed that this celebration is of particular importance for the province, given the historical role of the Zayani city in preserving Amazigh culture. The launch ceremony for these celebrations took place in the presence of the governor of the Khenifra province, alongside elected officials and several civil and military figures, researchers, academics, actors interested in Amazigh culture, and activists in civil society. The ceremony included honoring Mr. Miloud Taifi as an intellectual figure who stood out in the field of Amazigh language and culture, and who enriched scientific research and training in the Moroccan university for many years.

Moroccans celebrate the Amazigh New Year as an official paid national holiday, similar to the first of Muharram of the Hijri year and the Gregorian New Year.

The curtain was raised today, Monday, on the celebrations for the new Amazigh New Year in the Khenifra province, with various activities highlighting the status of Amazigh culture as one of the tributaries of Moroccan culture, and a fundamental component of the national identity.
