This meeting, chaired by the Governor of Figuig province, Mohamed Derham, falls within the framework of implementing the High Royal Instructions aimed at taking emergency measures to ensure the provision of necessary support to the population affected by harsh climatic conditions and the severe cold wave experienced by a number of regions of the Kingdom.
In a speech on the occasion, Mr. Derham emphasized that the meeting falls within the framework of a comprehensive mobilization in implementation of the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which aim to protect citizens and ensure their safety and dignity in the face of harsh weather conditions experienced by some regions of the Kingdom.
He added that this meeting also comes within the framework of the Provincial Vigilance Committee, which was established to monitor the implementation of the measures included in the regional plan to mitigate the effects of the cold wave in the concerned areas at the provincial level, emphasizing in this regard the importance of raising the level of readiness of field teams to ensure immediate and rapid intervention when needed, while ensuring the follow-up of the implementation of the measures taken.
During this meeting, it was emphasized through a group of interventions presented by representatives of the various concerned sectors, on the comprehensive mobilization of all logistical means, as well as the human resources necessary to provide the necessary support and assistance to the targeted population (about 1,000 families) originating from 11 Douars and belonging to five communes (Talsint, Boumeriem, Maatarka, Tendrara, Beni Guil).
The Provincial Director of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports in Figuig, Mohamed Jliben, highlighted the proactive measures taken, which began since last October and November, by providing blankets and appropriate heating conditions in boarding schools at the provincial level, which number 19 boarding schools receiving about 1,960 students.
In a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), he also emphasized the importance of the humanitarian initiatives in which civil society associations have engaged to contribute to improving the conditions for receiving students in boarding schools, including providing a set of winter clothes for the benefit of students of educational institutions in the rural world, especially in the communes of Bouchaouene and Talsint.
For his part, the Provincial Delegate of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Figuig, Mohamed Kabouri, confirmed that within the framework of the plan to mitigate the effects of the cold wave for this year, five multi-disciplinary medical campaigns have been organized for the benefit of the population of a number of targeted Douars, while the rest of the campaigns will be implemented in the areas included in this plan.
He added that more than 17 mobile medical units have also been organized for the benefit of the population of these areas, in addition to taking care of pregnant women by transporting them to the nearest hospital, maternity homes, or health centers, highlighting that more than 2,000 people have benefited from these health interventions (medical examinations, medicines, etc.).
As for the representative of the Provincial Directorate of Equipment and Water, Mouad El Moudene, he highlighted the measures taken at the level of the equipment sector to face the potential effects of the severe cold wave, noting in this regard the mobilization of snow removal machinery and others for loading distributed to the various annexes affiliated with the directorate in order to bring them closer to the targeted areas, in addition to setting up a permanence program and mobilizing its human resources to implement various interventions.
The meeting was attended, in particular, by representatives of local authorities, security services, and representatives of all concerned sectors, including health, civil protection, national cooperation, equipment, transport, and agriculture.
