The headquarters of the Driouch province hosted, on Monday, a communication meeting organized by the Provincial Committee for Human Development on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the launch of the National Initiative for Human Development, placed under the theme "The INDH: Twenty years at the service of human development."
The Governor of the Driouch province, Abdesslam Frindou, emphasized on this occasion the achievements and accomplishments made since the launch of the INDH on May 18, 2005, thanks to the High Royal Orientations, which place human development at the heart of all global and sustainable development.
He stressed that since its launch by HM King Mohammed VI, the Initiative has committed, through its various phases and programs, to embodying a new concept of development based on listening to citizens and consecrating the policy of proximity, in addition to its adherence to the implementation of major projects and reforms through strategic contracts and fruitful partnerships with various social actors.
Mr. Frindou continued that among the objectives set by the INDH as fundamental pillars in its first two phases are the fight against poverty, social exclusion, and precariousness, and the contribution to improving the country's human development indicators, adding that the National Initiative, in accordance with the High Royal Orientations, has established a new development strategy that transcends the traditional vision with a purely economic dimension, and which makes the human element the central axis of development and its main actor.
He also added that the INDH, since its launch, has taken several important steps in the fight against precariousness and exclusion, in improving access to health and education services, and creating employment opportunities, noting that in its third phase, it has deeply renewed its strategic vision by focusing mainly on the valorization of human capital and the skills of rising generations.
This meeting, in which local officials, elected representatives, and civil society actors participated, was marked by the screening of a documentary film highlighting the achievements of the INDH since 2005, as well as the presentation of the experiences of a group of beneficiaries of the Initiative's support at the provincial level.
In this regard, the head of the Social Action Division (DAS) in the province, Abdelouahed Belaari, specified that, during its three phases, the Initiative contributed to the creation of a set of development projects having a direct impact on citizens, with a total investment of nearly 496 million dirhams to carry out 1,570 projects and interventions.
He explained that 60 million dirhams were allocated to the first phase for the realization of 133 projects and interventions, 203 million dirhams to the second phase to implement 837 projects and interventions, and 233 million dirhams for 600 projects and interventions in the third phase.
Interventions during the first two phases focused on catching up on the deficit in infrastructure and basic services, notably the construction of roads, the provision of electricity and drinking water to the douars, as well as the strengthening of basic structures in the health and education sectors, he noted, adding that 229 million dirhams were allocated to the realization of 726 projects (87 percent of the total amount invested during the two phases).
According to him, the National Initiative also carried out important interventions during this period to fight poverty and support vulnerable categories through the creation of several income-generating activities and by creating social insertion centers, to which 34 million dirhams were allocated, or 13 percent of the total amount invested during the two phases of this royal project.
With the advent of the third phase, he continued, the Provincial Committee for Human Development made sure to plan projects that have a direct impact on the valorization and development of human capital, and to continue the programming of projects related to basic infrastructure, noting that during this phase, 600 projects and interventions were validated with a budget of 233 million dirhams, distributed over the four programs of the INDH.
On the sidelines of this meeting, and within the framework of the INDH, the inauguration of the Dar El Kebdani maternity ward took place, as well as the handover of two ambulances and the opening of an exhibition of local products and projects financed within the framework of the Initiative, organized by the province on this occasion.
The program for celebrating the 20th anniversary also includes the holding, from May 20 to 22, of INDH forums on the themes of "Economic insertion of young people in the Driouch province: challenges and perspectives," "The socio-cultural dimension of human development in the Driouch province: challenges and issues," and "The INDH as a unifying actor in the field of caring for vulnerable categories: achievements and challenges, the Tafersit social pole as a model."
