The 6th edition of the Afoulay Youth Theatre Festival, under the theme "Youth Theatre: A Bridge to Communication and Creativity", concluded on Tuesday in the commune of Zaouia Sidi Abdelkader (Al Hoceima province).
Organised by the Moulay Mohand Association for Amazigh Theatre in Bni Hadifa, in partnership with the Regional Council of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, the Provincial Directorate of Culture in Al Hoceima, and other partners, this festival, held from January 3 to 7, succeeded in bringing the magic of theatre and artistic expression to the rural areas of Al Hoceima province.
It was marked by the organisation of artistic, musical, and sports activities in several rural communes of the province, including Bni Hadifa, Zaouiat Sidi Abdelkader, Targuist, and Imzouren, offering young people the opportunity to reveal their talents and creativity, particularly in the field of theatre.
In a statement to MAP, the festival director, Salim Khadiri, affirmed that this event aims to support young theatre troupes in Al Hoceima province, highlighting the festival's importance in involving young people in various training courses aimed at developing their creative skills and guiding them towards professional theatre practice.
This edition, he continued, opened its doors to several schools in the province, with the aim of bringing theatre closer to students and introducing them to its various genres through workshops and theatrical performances addressing diverse themes in a fun and festive atmosphere, while also emphasising the need to promote this art and its values in the region.
This event also provided an opportunity to pay tribute to several personalities for their contributions in the fields of art, media, education, and content creation at the local level.
In this regard, journalist Ouidad Aderdak, one of the honoured personalities, highlighted the determination of young people in rural areas to open up the province and promote its potential at the regional and national levels, also commending the festival's role in creating new opportunities for the youth and children of the region.
For his part, content creator and blogger Mourad Elhankari stated that this recognition is an additional motivation to continue highlighting, on social media, the natural, social, and geographical riches of the Rif, as well as its heritage, welcoming the festival's efforts to develop a theatrical culture and encourage young talents in the rural areas of Al Hoceima province.

The first edition of the Ahidous Palm Festival will take place from January 28 to 31 in Zagora, under the theme "Local Heritage for Development".
Organised by the Ait Massoud Association of Zagora, in partnership with the Provincial Directorate of Culture of Ouarzazate and the Cultural Centre of Zagora, this cultural and artistic event features a rich and varied programme aimed at highlighting the art of Ahidous and preserving this national folklore and its noble artistic and humanist messages.
According to the organisers, this event also aims to consolidate the place of the Amazigh language as an important component of Moroccan identity and to highlight its cultural and artistic manifestations within the framework of strengthening the region's cultural and spatial diversity.
The programme includes workshops for learning the Tifinagh alphabet, poetry readings, screenings of Amazigh films, as well as a scientific symposium to examine several themes including "Oasis Architecture in the Drâa-Tafilalet Region", "Tangible and Intangible Heritage in Drâa", "Amazigh, National Identity" and "Ahidous Poetry and Songs".
