"This exhibition goes beyond the framework of a simple artistic appointment, it acts as a bridge between my present and my roots, a deeply significant return to my native land", emphasizes the artist, quoted by the press release, adding that it "symbolizes an intimate reconciliation with the place where I was born, establishing a discreet dialogue between what I left behind and what I shaped far away, far from the shores of my childhood".
According to the organizers, Chouati's artistic research focuses on themes such as exile, uprooting, disorientation, and loneliness. Through his works, he "destabilizes the spectator to incite them to collective reflection, by following processes where meaning is hidden and the narrative is discontinuous, through drawing, screen printing, and lithography... and through several artistic projects, he exploits a series of elements to explore the memory and melancholy linked to exile".
Residing in Spain, Yassine Chouati holds a doctorate with international mention and Cum Laude qualification in art and heritage. He also holds a master's degree in contemporary art and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Seville.
His works have been exhibited in several countries, notably in Spain, Sweden, and Mexico. He has also participated in numerous artistic residencies and has benefited from international research stays funded in Denmark, Finland, and Brazil.
The Espace Rivages, inaugurated in March 2016, is dedicated to Moroccan artists and writers residing abroad. Since its opening, it has hosted numerous exhibitions and book presentations aimed at making the creations of the Moroccan diaspora known and integrating it into the artistic and cultural life of its country of origin.
