After years of absence and trials in the Botola Pro D2 and the amateur division, the Kawkab Athlétique Club de Marrakech (KACM) has officially regained its place among the greats of the elite championship.
This long-awaited return has sparked an explosion of joy in the neighbourhoods of the ochre city, where thousands of delirious supporters celebrated the promotion of KACM to the Botola Pro D1, the natural place for this prestigious club.
Car and motorbike horns, songs, and red and white flags transformed Marrakech into a huge popular festival, reviving the memory of the glory days of the historic club of the ochre city.
From the final whistle of the match between KACM and Mouloudia d'Oujda, mathematically sealing the promotion with one day left in the Botola Pro D2, a tide of motorbikes gathered and invaded the surroundings of the legendary El Harti stadium, the historic cradle of the team.
The celebrations continued at the entrance to Marrakech-Menara airport, where supporters gave a triumphal welcome to the players and technical staff of Kawkab.
Young and old, all united in the same fervour, proudly brandished the colours of KACM while singing anthems to the glory of their team.
Representatives of local authorities, including the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Governor of the Marrakech prefecture, Farid Chourak, local and regional elected officials, former players, and iconic figures of the club were also present at Marrakech-Menara airport to welcome the team and salute this return to the elite after 6 years of absence.
Supporters also massed along the route of the bus carrying the players and technical staff to give their team a worthy welcome.
On the occasion of KACM's return to the D1 of the Botola Pro, the entire city of Marrakech wanted to congratulate the components of the club (administrative management, technical staff, players, institutional partners, and supporters) for this return to the elite championship, which is widely deserved given the flawless path of the club during this sporting season, during which KACM dominated the Botola Pro D2.
A remarkable journey for a club that was still playing in the amateur division during the 2022-2023 season.
KACM was officially promoted to the Botola Pro D1 after its draw (1-1) on Wednesday in Oujda against the local Mouloudia for the 29th and penultimate day of the Botola Pro D2 "Inwi" football league.
At the end of this draw, KACM brings its total to 52 points at the top of the standings.
Winner of the Botola Pro D1 twice, in 1958 and 1992, six Throne Cup titles (1962-1963, 1963-1964, 1964-1965, 1986-1987, 1990-1991, and 1992-1993), and a CAF Confederation Cup in 1996-1997, KACM is the 5th most titled club in the Kingdom.
