Jamai, who was speaking at the opening, Tuesday in Fez, of the 39th Architect's Day organized under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, invited architects to contribute to the success of these development projects in order to face the challenges of territorial vulnerability, "to which the weakened situation of several spaces within the city testifies".
He noted in this context that the spiritual capital of the Kingdom was founded and built around water by Moulay Idriss II, specifying that the choice of the location of the Idrissid capital was really motivated by the richness of the environment in water, with about sixty springs.
Mr. Jamai added that this historical and architectural legacy reflects the richness of the heritage of the Medina of Fez as well as its traditions and values that date back more than 1200 years.
"Exploring these specificities really encourages immersion in a varied universe with vibrant traditions, ancestral know-how, and an urban and architectural heritage as rich as it is innovative", he continued, emphasizing that the development of the city both at the demographic and economic level "very quickly allowed the urban extension of the Medina".
The official emphasized the project of recreating life within the Medina through an important animation program, adding that the ambition goes beyond this objective and aims to integrate clean energies to establish this space as a "Green Medina".
He also noted that the theme of this day: "the citizen architect facing climate change", challenges citizens, professionals, and public and private actors and aims to instill a collective dynamic to build a sustainable and lasting future for the city of Fez.
For Mr. Jamai, the celebration of this architects' day coincides with the celebration of the Amazigh New Year "Id Yennayer 2975", a day that "attests to the richness and cultural diversity of the Kingdom, of which architecture is always a bearer".
Initiated by the National Council of the Order of Architects (CNOA), in partnership with the Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy, this day sees the participation of architects, experts, and decision-makers, in addition to representatives of orders and organizations of architects from Africa.
This annual meeting, instituted in homage to the historic speech delivered by the late HM Hassan II on January 14, 1986, in Marrakech, was part of an environmental emergency context this year by focusing on the role of architects in the transition to sustainable development and on innovative approaches to meet the growing challenges related to water stress and energy management.
The event also brings together presidents of major international professional organizations, including the African Union of Architects (AUA), the Mediterranean Union of Architects (UMAR), and the Federation of Francophone Architects of Africa (FAFA).
