The creation of an Alliance of Civilizations Chair at the Euromed University of Fez (UEMF) is the concretisation of the vision of King Mohammed VI, as expressed during the 9th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations held in November 2022 in Fez, affirmed, on Friday, the High Representative of the United Nations for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Miguel Ăngel Moratinos.
This is a "historic" step that comes in accordance with the vision of the Sovereign who had called for "concrete actions in favour of peace" during the Forum held two years ago in the spiritual capital of the Kingdom, declared Mr. Moratinos to the press, on the sidelines of his participation in the "Meetings of the Euromed University of Fez" on the future of civilizations, organised under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI.
For the high UN official, the creation of this Chair at the Euromed University allows students to be equipped with "the tools, values, principles and knowledge to make a better world".
Mr. Moratinos particularly welcomed the choice of the city of Fez to host this chair, noting that students from all over the Mediterranean, Africa and elsewhere join at the Euromed University to build a common future.
For his part, the president of the Alliance of Civilizations Chair at the UEMF, Mr. Abdelhak Azzouzi explained that this chair "has a university and academic vocation, since it aims to promote research, training and consulting in the field of the Alliance of Civilizations".
It offers throughout the academic year a rich and diversified programme of scientific and cultural actions capable of training young people of different cycles and specialties in the appropriation of the values of civilizational dialogue and intercultural exchange", explained Mr. Azzouzi.
He made it known that the team of the Chair is composed of about sixty members from all continents.
Bringing together eminent international personalities, these meetings, which continue on Saturday, focus on several axes related to peace, migration and international cooperation, transparency, responsibility and trust, preventive diplomacy and international cooperation as well as artificial intelligence.
According to the organisers, these meetings are driven by the determination to promote dialogue, with a view to building common solutions to global problems such as the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on the integrity and accuracy of information, extreme climatic phenomena or even forced migration under the pressure of various factors.
