The services of this centre, which was inaugurated in the presence of, in particular, the Wali of the Fez-Meknes region, Governor of the Fez prefecture, Mouaad Jamai, have been equipped with advanced biomedical equipment and a complete, specialised, and highly qualified medical and nursing team.
This project with a regional dimension, which cost 16.4 million dirhams to complete, is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Regional Council, and the "Injad" Association.
The Director of the Al Ghassani Regional Hospital Centre, Rachid Ihmoutin, highlighted in a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse agency the importance of launching the services of this centre, the first of its kind at the level of regional hospitals in the Kingdom, noting that the goal is to bring healthcare services closer to the population and improve their quality by reducing waiting times for this type of intervention.
For his part, the Head of the Cardiology and Cardiovascular Department at the same hospital, Adil Wafi, pointed out that this project is part of a broader project to modernise the cardiology department at the Al Ghassani Regional Hospital Centre, adding that the initiative, which was the fruit of a partnership between the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and the "Injad" Association, will enable vulnerable groups to access treatment in the best conditions.
This centre will enable approximately 4.5 million inhabitants of the Fez-Meknes region to access health services related to heart and vascular diseases, and will also contribute to reducing waiting times associated with specialised cardiovascular surgical interventions, particularly cardiac catheterisation operations.
The entry into service of this vital centre comes within the framework of continuing the rehabilitation of health infrastructure across the Kingdom, in implementation of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, relating to the reform and rehabilitation of the national health sector, and also within the framework of developing health provision to support the implementation of the Royal project for social protection and universal health coverage.
This centre, which is the first of its kind at the regional hospital level, aims to strengthen specialised health provision in the Fez-Meknes region, and improve the services provided to heart patients who need urgent intervention through cardiac catheterisation under the supervision of a complete, specialised, and highly qualified medical and nursing team, in accordance with the latest approved medical standards and technologies in this field.
It also aims to relieve pressure on other departments in the region's hospitals, as well as to respond to the growing demand of the Fez-Meknes region's population for cardiology services, with a view to reducing morbidity and mortality rates associated with these diseases.
For her part, the Regional Director of Health and Social Protection in the Fez-Meknes region, Salima Saasaa, indicated that in addition to this cardiac catheterisation centre, which meets the required standards, the cardiology department at Al Ghassani Hospital will see the launch of services for a cardiovascular surgery unit at the beginning of next year, explaining that these structures are part of the Royal project to generalise the compulsory basic health insurance system and strengthen health care provision at the regional level.
Before that, the Minister of Health and Social Protection presided over the work of the ordinary session of the Board of Directors of the Hassan II University Hospital Centre in Fez.
The work of this session focused on evaluating the achievements of the hospital centre, approving the minutes of the Board of Directors meeting held on 13 July 2023, and presenting the centre's activities for the year 2023, in addition to presenting the centre's administrative accounts.
The results of the implementation of the board's decisions for the year 2023 were also evaluated, as well as the presentation of the results of the implementation of the hospital centre's budget for the year 2024, the action plan for the year 2024, and the presentation of the centre's draft budget for the year 2025, in addition to presenting the cooperation agreements concluded by the hospital centre.
