Bringing together a prestigious array of artists, intellectuals, critics, journalists, and cultural actors, this event was punctuated by moments of reflection and sharing, particularly regarding copyright and related rights, under the evocative title: "From creation to remuneration". A conference in partnership with the Tayeb Saddiki Foundation for Culture and Creation was also organised, exploring the richness of Moroccan artistic heritage, from the theatrical scene to the songs of the legendary Ghiwani groups.
The speakers praised the profound legacy of this musical movement born in the 70s, highlighting the need to reinvent this art while preserving its authenticity, so that it can engage with contemporary sounds and continue to embody the multiple facets of Moroccan cultural identity.
In the various cities and provinces of the region, cultural centres and theatres will vibrate to the rhythm of musical evenings bringing together historical figures and young talents. These stage moments symbolise an intergenerational handover where tradition and modernity merge to perpetuate the Ghiwani soul.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Abdellatif Maazouz, President of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, stressed that the organisation of this festival finds its full legitimacy in the desire to preserve and transmit an iconic musical heritage, a faithful mirror of the Moroccan soul in all its diversity. He insisted on the importance that culture holds in the Regional Council's strategic vision, as a fundamental pillar of territorial development. "Culture," he affirmed, "is not a luxury, but a structuring lever that irrigates all our development actions."
He also recalled that the Ghiwani phenomenon, a true intangible treasure, deserves sustained attention from all cultural actors to ensure its transmission, renewal, and modernisation, in light of the changes our society is experiencing.
Through this celebration, Casablanca reaffirms its role as a dynamic cultural capital, capable of combining memory and innovation, and of establishing Ghiwani music as a living symbol of a multiple Morocco, proud of its roots and turned towards the future.
